It’s Hot, It’s Cold, It’s Raining, It’s Hot

Welcome to Chicago in the times of climate change. And change it does. By the day. Unless, of course, we have tickets to two Mets games at Wrigley Field, in which case it’s guaranteed to be soaked-to-the-skin, blazing sun, hot and humid for both games. Not that I’m complaining. Today, it’s rainy and chilly (to us).

Can’t go wrong with a Seaver jersey

Yes, we did go to two Mets-Cubs games last week. The first was most excellent with a final score of 11-1 Mets. We sat next to a very nice college student who grew up in the Bay Area, but whose mom (who is from Queens) very sensibly taught him to be a Mets fan (child abuse!). After the game, we quickly came home, showered and headed out to dinner with Sherry and Jay. Turns out that they were at the game too. Well, Sherry was there physically but she didn’t know who won.

The second game was great because the family was there, but the result was terrible: 8-1 Cubs. Oh well, the Mets won the series on Sunday so all was well.

Since the game ended around 4ish, we decided to hang out and then go to dinner. Yay! Family dinner. We went to Uncommon Ground, which was fine, but company trumps food. Last-minute weekend dining can be a challenge. Reservations recommended.

Whenever we get to a new place, Steven and I go grocery shopping for all the staples we think we’ll need. This time we’re wondering if we’ve gone overboard since we keep making plans to go out with friends (I mean work colleagues for Steven) and family. I think there’s been one day this week when we both ate two meals at home.

Yesterday’s extravaganza for me (I had to work) was a visit to the Art Institute’s Georgia O’Keeffe: “My New Yorks” exhibit. These aren’t all vagina pictures. There are a bunch of phallic buildings as well, it being New York and all. But, really, it’s a lovely exhibit. Nice to see more than skulls (although there is one) and flowers (which you can also see). We’ve been to a lot of art museums and I still think AIC is among the best (for what my art-ignorant opinion is worth). Thanks, Ellen, for taking me and getting me that free entree and cup of coffee! Afterwards, we walked around Millennium Park — the Bean is open again! I remember when the gardens were teeny tiny and now the plants are gloriously in bloom and keeping the butterflies and bees happy.

In the evening, I met up with friends from Niles West at Hop Leaf in Andersonville (somehow, without trying at all, I managed to walk 6 miles) and Steven went out with Steve, who at this point he might even call a friend and not just a colleague (yes, he got promoted to friend).

In between all the eating, we’ve been hitting the gym and one of us has been working. I’ll give you a hint: It’s not me. Instead, I’ve been honing my craft of taking photos that have no people in them. (See above.)

Oh yes. We also watched the Mets beat the Yankees twice (very upsetting!!!). This is where Steven would remind me that that Yankees still have a much better record and where I reply that the Mets just look better right now, but I don’t want to jinx it for my boys, so I’m just going to be quiet. (Too late! You already have).
